Who We Are

AfricaIGotYourBack is a clothing line that combines the European style with an African touch. It is ready-to-wear for anybody, for kids and juveniles, men and women, young and old. It offers trendy and high quality products at affordable prices. Our mixed cultures and our love for fashion give our products a special and unique charme. At the same time the blending of our two different cultures signify the diversity and unity of people, which define our selection.

Gambian born Gibril and German born Pia established the brand AfricaIGotYourBack in the beginning of 2019. They travelled to The Gambia – Gibril’s birthplace- which is also known as “The smiling coast of Africa”. It was Pia’s first visit in Africa, and it truly was an eye opener for her! They were staying at Gibril’s sister, who has her compound opposite an open football field. Random kids usually came to Gibril’s sister’s compound to drink water or fill up their cups during their games. Pia assumed these kids belonged to the family, or were at least known by the sister. When she heard that they were just random kids, who walked in to greet everybody and fill up their cups and bottles, she was truly impressed. This is what The Gambia is known for: “Teranga”. It means “hospitality”, and kids in The Gambia are taught in an early age that you don’t wait to have more to give or share.

Meaning behind the Brand name „AfricaIGotYourBack“:  Africa can be projected negatively by the Western world. Like any other continent, there is “The Good The Bad and The Ugly. But – and this is often forgotten – there isn’t only bad, ugly, poor and dirty, but also colorful, bright, beautiful and welcoming. You must literally go there yourself, to experience the bright side of Mother Africa, and this is exactly the perspective, that AfricaIGotYourBack wants to represent. Africa, we are standing behind you, we got your back.

We‘re all in this boat (world)  afloat, rowing on the beautiful streams of blessings for a common purpose. To live, to build, to thrive. We’re all different, but our difference should be a drive to create a strong bond that support our coexistence to prove man’s brotherhood. Our difference is not a threat, it’s a strength.. let’s embrace it and understand that we’re not on this boat by mistake, we’re here for a purpose and through embracing one another and joining our forces to push further, shall we reach the promised land to stay ever true.
